# Zone 2 Planting Schedule

Encompassing the mountainous regions of the Midwest and parts of Alaska, Zone 2 is a cold climate. The last frost date ranges from late May to early June with a first frost date around mid-September. The growing season in Zone 2 averages 90 to 115 days.

Cool temperatures combined with a short growing season make Zone 2 best suited for fast-maturing crops. Cool-season crops can be sown directly after the danger of frost has passed while warm-season crops should be started indoors.

### Zone 2 Hardiness Dates

| | |
| --- | --- |
| Last Frost Date | First Frost Date |
| May 15th | September 1st |

With a growing season as short as 90 days in some areas, starting seeds indoors is crucial for a successful harvest in Zone 2. Refer to the planting schedule below to determine the best timing to start seeds, direct sow, or transplant seedlings.
