Zone 8 Calendar - Vegetable Planting Guide

Zone 8 Hardiness Dates

Last Frost Date	First Frost Date
March 30th	November 1st

Primarily located in the southern United States, Zone 8 also includes parts of the Pacific Northwest and coastal California. With a last frost date in mid-to-late March and a first frost date in early November, Zone 8 offers a moderately long growing season.

Winters in Zone 8 are mild and summers are hot, making this region ideal for warm-season crops. Many varieties can be directly sown outdoors in spring or started indoors for an earlier harvest. [Cool-season crops](/content/collections/cool-season-crops "cool-season crop seeds"/index.html) are best planted in fall or winter.

The growing season in Zone 8 offers an average of 250 to 270 frost-free days, though frost dates can vary by location. Start seeds indoors to maximize your harvest and consider [succession planting](/content/blogs/park-seed-blog/succession-planting-vegetable-seeds-and-produce "learn more"/index.html) for fast-maturing varieties. Refer to the planting schedule below for optimal timing to start seeds, direct sow, and transplant seedlings.
