Zone 6 Calendar - Vegetable Planting Guide

Zone 6 Hardiness Dates

Last Frost Date	First Frost Date
May 1st	October 15th

Spanning from the Pacific Northwest and parts of the Southwestern United States across the Midwest and into the Mid-Atlantic, Zone 6 is a broad region with two subzones. With a last frost date in early to mid-May and first frost date in mid-to-late October, Zone 6 is a temperate zone.

Cold winters combined with warm summers make for a long growing season that supports a wide range of crops. Zone 6 is ideal for [succession planting](/content/blogs/park-seed-blog/succession-planting-vegetable-seeds-and-produce "learn more"/index.html) and can accommodate both fast-maturing and late-season varieties.

The growing season in Zone 6 has an average of 150 to 180 frost-free days. Cold-sensitive plants should be started indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost but many crops can be sown directly in spring. Refer to the planting schedule below to determine the best timing to start seeds, direct sow, and transplant seedlings.
